Day 35

Things are just about beginning to return to normal now. I got over the infection fine. Everybody told me to go to the dentists but I was buggered if I was paying someone just to poke around a bit and tell me to chew on the other side for a few days, and luckily that approach paid off - it cleared up on its own within a few days. All of the stitches have come out of the left hand side, and there is just one left in the right. My gums still feel a bit weird and mushy, but less so than they did. The back of my mouth still feels strange and swollen, but it's getting better.

Having had my wisdom teeth out has had a benefit I really didn't see coming, and which I haven't heard about from anywhere else. For years, my right salivary gland has been slightly bigger than my left. I'd never thought much of it. I didn't particularly like it because it made my jaw look heavier on one side, but it didn't occur to me that there might be something wrong because, hey, nobody's face is totally symmetrical. Well, now that I've recovered from the operation, the offending gland is now almost exactly the same size as the other. I never had any pain in it, but I'm sure that the wisdom tooth on that side must have been causing it to swell.

Of course it's not all good - I may have a marginally narrower, more symmetrical jawline, which makes me very happy, but the mouthwash I was using to help my gums heal has stained my teeth yellow, which makes me very unhappy. According to the label, staining can be removed by a simple scale and polish, but I'm not inclined to have this done until I've completely recovered. Slightly worried about that actually - I remember it being vaguely uncomfortable the last time I had it done about four years ago, but I've heard it's supposed to get painful as you get older...

Thanks so much for posting this blog; it helps a lot to have the point of view coming from the patient versus the doctor. Of course, I'm sure my recovery will be different since I'm only 14 but it should be relatively similar (: Thanks again,

Christina

Wow, you really got that wisdom tooth chronicled! My daughter's about to get hers extracted, and I've been helping her prepare for this. She should be fine when our dentist in Goose Creek extracts her teeth. She's a strong girl.

Good thing our dentists (Goose Creek) are very good at what they do, and they put their patients first in everything they do.

You just have a very good insight regarding your recovery. Dentists (Germantown-based) told me a trivia regarding wisdom tooth. According to them, it is used before to eat meat. Men used these so called "wisdom tooth" to grip and bite meat. However, as time develops these teeth becomes unused and regularly comes when one enters adulthood. Thus, it is called "wisdom" - a sign of crossing from childhood or teenage years to adulthood. Reading your blog, it seems that you have indeed gained your wisdom, as I did from my dentists (Germantown-based).

really hats off Aggy.......you really won many hearts....sharing experiences about to recover from teeth problems even if it is wisdom teeth really deserves a spat..Treatments like all on four dental implants or teeth in a day have become very popular now a days and are really serving millions around the globe with 100% satisfaction. In fact i know a few people who have undergone teeth treatments under latest procedures and they say that now its really easy to have a oral surgery or a tooth replacement as it deals very minimal pain and more or less permanent teeth problem solutions.

Nice to read this blog. I've been reading a lot of blogposts about wisdom teeth extraction lately, posting lots of comments and it's nice to know everyone has the same experiences.

I just had my wisdom teeth out under general anaesthesia and the swelling is insane. I'd pick the pain (that I have paracetamol/ibuprofen/codeine for!) than the swelling any day.

She should be fine when our dentist in Goose Creek extracts her teeth. You just have a very good insight regarding your recovery. Recommend a tooth extraction only in the most extreme of cases where another method of saving the tooth is not available. Many dentists recommend the tooth extractions in springfield of impacted wisdom teeth.

Great you recovered from the infection caused by wisdom teeth extraction.Wisdom teeth removal is such a painful task.

I recently got my wisdom teeth out and I had no problems at all. I even had a tooth that was badly impacted. I just made sure to take proper care not to try to do too much before I had healed the proper amount of time. I have heard stories of people getting dry socket and really didn't want to get it.

I'm getting my wisdom teeth out and I am a bit nervous about it- until reading your post. If you were feeling a lot better after a few days, then the wisdom teeth removal must not be as bad as some people say it is! Thanks for sharing your experiences, they are appreciated.

I can't believe how long it has taken you to recover from your wisdom tooth extraction. I never got mine removed, so the dentist told me that I should get mine out asap. I'm really nervous about it, but luckily I'll be sedated through the whole process. I really hope that it doesn't take too long to recover. http://www.omsoforegon.com/oral-surgery-medford-or/wisdom-teeth-medford-or.html

Your lucky yours went away. I got an infection and had to go on antibiotics. I was going on vacation, too, and I wasn't allowed to do anything that might injure my sensitive jaw. It was not a very fun vacation. http://www.robbinsoralsurgery.com

I'm glad you got over the infection. It sounds like wisdom teeth removal is different for everyone. It is harder and more painful for some. http://www.collegestation-dentist.com/dental-services/wisdom-teeth

That is really good that it only took 35 days for you to make a full recovery with your wisdom teeth extractions. I can't remember how long it took me to recover when I got mine out, but that seems about right. It was a really good idea to get my wisdom teeth out, especially since I have such a small mouth.

It must be really nice to be almost fully recovered from having your wisdom teeth removed. It can be a really long process, but it is definitely worth it. I haven't had my wisdom teeth out yet, but I know that I need to. I am really hoping that it won't take too long for me to recover after I have it done.

Glad you healed and finally getting to normal...even if it is at day 35. I like reading that even with early setbacks, healing is achieved.

Maybe like yours, recovery will be another 2 weeks away. Currently at 3.5 weeks, I can tell you it is not going smoothly with on going pain, soup/ liquid diet, etc.

Thank you so much for your blog, even if it was years ago I just got mine out and am somewhere between days 5 and 6 and I thought I wasn't normal because I am still swollen, in pain and doubt I'll be eating anything solid for a good few more days. Your blog brought a smile to my face even though this is tough I know I can get through it eating the same soft things is getting unbearable
